The Kids: Our Future
Invest In Them
The average salary in Honduras is $10 per day. Public school is free in Honduras but many are not able to afford the basic supplies. They are required to have a uniform, a pair of shoes, and basic supplies such as a backpack, notebooks, and pencils. This is out of reach for many families, especially if you have more than one kid. Some make it a few years but often drop out to start working. For $35 per month, these kids can be sent to school.
It is even harder for the high school students. The high schools are located rather far apart. They still need uniforms and supplies, but they also need transportation. There are no school buses in Honduras. They use a combination of moto taxis and public buses to get to school if they can afford it. It costs about $300 per year for transportation.
I really think that education is the only way to break the cycle of poverty in Honduras.
The school in buenos aires
We opened our school in my home village of Buenos Aires in February of 2022. Our village does have a public school for grades 1-6 operated by the Honduran government. Currently our school focuses on grades 7-11. We have 80 enrolled in these five grades. We also have 20 more students enrolled in grades 1-6 that have fallen behind for various reasons and are trying to catch back up.
We started meeting in various places in our community. We used the Catholic Church, Iglesia CentroAmericana, and several peoples houses including mine. In January of 2023, we started construction on our permanent facility which was just recently completed. The kids are so happy in their new home.

The park in Buenos Aires
The park in the center of our village was in need of refurbishing when I arrived 2 years ago. Mission Honduras provided the money for materials and the people of Buenos Aires provided the labor. We have created an amazing little park that sees a lot of action every day. We also hold special events such as Easter services, Kid's Day Celebration, our Christmas tree lighting celebration and a Christmas Day Fiesta with presents for the kids. It has a stage at one end, a multi-purpose court in the center, a kids playground and sitting area under the shade trees complete with a fountain and lazy river with a swinging bridge. The citizens are extremely proud of the accomplishment in this project.
Iglesia Centro-Americano
This is my church here in Buenos Aires. Since arriving, I have helped them paint the exterior, add sidewalks and landscaping, and construct a new fence. Currently we are in the process of adding an addition on the right side of the church to include a kitchen, 2 bathrooms and more Sunday school space.
Our latest Addition
Below are our plans to close in the corridor on the right side of our church to make 2 bathrooms and a kitchen. Although this is a rather small space, we will also use it as a Sunday School room for our kids on Sunday mornings.
Sunday School
We have Sunday school every Sunday morning for ages 3-15. We are currently averaging about 50 in attendance. This is one of the most importants things that we do, because it gets kids involved in church at a young age.
Youth Group
We have 2 separate age groups of youth meeting every Saturday night.
Men's club
Mission Trips
We recently hosted our first mission group from Black Jack Baptist Church . They had a group of 14 and had a medical and dental team, Bible School and started construction on a sanctuary for the Filadelfia Church.
House construction
Mission Honduras has completed 2 new houses for families in the area.
The Feeding center
Monday through Friday, we offer a mid-morning snack at the kindergarten. The teacher says it is a great help as many do not get breakfast. We use the mothers as volunteers to prepare the snack. If you want to see some cute kids, just follow me around.
mission trips
If you have a group that is interested in going on a foreign mission trip, I would love to talk to you about visiting the Lake Yojoa Region here in Honduras. There is need everywhere and we can talk about tailoring a trip to your strenghths. This is truly one of the most beautiful places on Earth and the people are equally beautiful. You really don't need any special skills, just the desire to help your fellow man.
